Coconut Macaroons

These are a very English kind of macaroon, the sort you always used to see displayed in bakers’ shops alongside the madelines (those sponge castles dipped in luminous strawberry jam and dredged in throat-catching dessiccated coconut, and so very different from those that inflamed the memory of Marcel Proust). The difference with coconut macaroons is that you need neither to be ironic nor self-consciously retro-cool to enjoy them. One bit of retail bossiness here: buy shredded, not desiccated, coconut, otherwise the sugary, fragrant dampness – which is, after all, the whole point – will be lost.

2 large egg whites
quarter teaspoon cream of tartar
100g caster sugar
30g ground almonds
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or coconut essence, should such be available)
250g shredded coconut
1 baking sheet, lined

Preheat the oven to 170?C/gas mark 3. Beat the egg whites until frothy – no more – then add the cream of tartar and carry on beating, until soft peaks are formed. Add the sugar a teaspoon at a time and whisk until the peaks can hold their shape and are shiny. Fold in the almonds, salt, vanilla and coconut. The mixture will be sticky but should, all the same, hold its shape when clumped together. Form into clementine-sized domes, 6-7cm in diameter. Don't make them too flat; they look best if you keep them nicely rounded, but this is really just a matter of personal taste, so follow your own. Cook for 20 minutes or until they're just beginning to turn golden in parts. Makes 8 large macaroons.

the Furama Experience...

Furama RiverFront had just underwent a major revamp. so the apartment suites that i so adored are now missing; being replaced with Deluxe sized rooms... sigh sigh what a waste... but i've seen many marked improvements in the hotel...

first up... we have the Executive Lounge...
( guest who book rooms with the Executive Club Benefits get priority check in, free internet broadband access, free evening cocktail drinks and breakfast at the Executive Lounge )

this is HRH Albarea Parasoundremmss and my breakkie. Albar usually looks way better than this as his Royal Entourage is on leave...

the lounge area and the dining area of the Executive Lounge... very bright, roomy and contemporary no?

next is the view from the room itself...isn't it pretty! its a bit misty because its early in the morning... like around 6.50am... but it turned out to be a beautiful ( and hot ) day... i still can't forget this view since i worked there in 2005...

this is the Cosmopolitan... its just beside Great World City and is right in front of Furama... looks like a nice place to stay...

and lastly, the best view ever...

a view of a very tired and drunk silly friend who NEARLY made out with a bapok... next time drink like a man, not a fish!
toodles and ciao ciao!!

mimi's birthday pt II

some pics from the party yesterday...

the pretty vanity set in the toilet before the rowdy bapoks came in..

the vanity counter after the bapoks came in... sigh...

just FYI, the guy on the left is Fauzie, the Lifeguard from Khatib Camp. the one sleeping beside him is one of the bapoks, wanita tulen terunggul dari Gunung Tahan.

ape? gambar tak cukup terang? nyah, sini akak terangkan hati adik sikit...

sedap eh ... sleep with gay boy!

in the picture below, is the birthday boy, sleeping in the living area of the suite. before there, 5 Security Officers from the Hotel came up and rang the bell. they asked me if the guy outside belonged to my room. i looked down, there was suhaimi, sleeping so soundly in the hotel corridor.

ku semangat, very kesian lah!

and this is abang najib 8 inchers of pure, lusty pleasure! HRH Parasoundreemms said najib's birdie is very thick and long... wonder what that means. anyways, that's him, after getting pissed drunk.

pity lah i did not take any pictures of the drag show and the empat dara... albar had the pics so i will post them when he has sent them to me ( in like 4 eternities )... so yeah... i think that's about it lah...

WAIT! tunggu nyah, akak ada cerita ghost story!

you know the picture in which fauzie was sleeping with the bapok? ok that bapok's name is also fauzie. we shall call the bapok fauzie II to avoid confusion ok? so after a few dozen rounds of bombay sapphire, absolut, bacardi, and 25 gallons of beer, fauzie was feeling rather tipsy. so he went to bed, beside the bapok. a few points to highlight what they did...
  1. fauzie hugged the bapok while he was sleeping.

  2. fauzie II hugged him back.
  3. when parasoundremms returned to the room after going out for a smoke, he saw fauzie's dick à l'attention and fauzie II is actually bending over to suck on the dickie. fauzie II decided not to and pretended to go to sleep, while fauzie is still stroking sa virilité.

  4. later when parasoundremmss pretended to sleep, he saw both fauzies go into the toilet.

  5. what did i hear from the toilet? la jouissance pure de fantaisies orales! the pure enjoyment of oral fantasies! i even heard him moaning and groaning!
this is not the first time fauzie had done this nonsense in a room booked by someone else. ( hint hint!! kit's birthday!! ) i mean i booked and payed for the room and i invite you to the room and you do this type of nonsense? tsk tsk that's not very nice of you fauzie...

Mimi's Birthday on 140608

for this event, there were quite a number of cock ups and it was actually rather messy ( for my preference )... so here are the list of cock ups that we encounter during that day, in chronological order.

1200 hrs - i was suppossed to meet wilson, ms chew and sheikh at dhoby ghaut mrt station because some incessant pest wants to eat at fish & co. ( the original plan was to eat at Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant at Furama RiverFront ). i've already told sheikh that i will not be meeting him at dhoby ghaut mrt station because i will be late. i've already told ms chew to go ahead with lunch and that i will not be having lunch with them. ( i messaged her at +- 1200 hrs. )
i then told wilson that i will meet them at Great World City to buy some mise-en-plis for the party at 1330 hrs. he said they may be late.

1315 hrs - i asked wilson where are they. they said their food have yet to arrive. so what? its my shit now? i have a darn bloody good reason why i want to eat at Furama. its because the room is at Furama. so when check in time rolls around, we will not be late. no. this incessant pest die die want to eat at dhoby ghaut at this restaurant that you can eat anytime anywhere as they have like a dozen of outlets islandwide. i gave wilson a really good hollering and put the phone down.

1400 hrs - i've reached Great World City and am awaiting for their regal arrival. where are they? still at fish & co, yet to finish, yet to settle their bloody bill. Fine.

1430 hrs - their grand entrance at Great World City. we frantically ran around Cold Storage to look for the party stuff and went ahead to Furama.

1500 hrs - FINALLY! we checked in at Furama. bear in mind that check in time is at 2pm. we were late by one solid hour.

1515 hrs - went into room 1712. realised something was terrible wrong. 1712, which used to be an apartment suite with a dining area, full kitchennette, a living room and two bedrooms, has been renovated into a tiny deluxe sized room that is already a tight squeeze for 10 people! i was in utter pandemonium! so i called May Khiang, the GSO, and asked her about my request for an apartment suite room. this kind hearted soul offered to upgrade me to an Executive Suite at 1526. i was so relieved after that...

1645 hrs - we moved to 1526. if we had eaten at Furama as planned, we would have finished our lunch by 2pm and check in immediately downstairs. we can then realise that the room is wrong by, say, 1405 hrs. we could have gotten 1526 by 1430. compare getting the new room at 4.45pm to 2.30pm. a difference of more than 2 hours! in 2 hours, you can do A LOT of things!

1700 hrs - the rest of the committee came. realised there is no kitchen and so went to aliman's place to cook. finished cooking by 1930 hrs. by then, ms chew, sheikh and the incessant pest had left. when i reached there, nothing was set up! no plates were ordered, no glasses or cutleries were ordered... no jugs were ordered... i mean, wilson should noe that we are organising a PARTY. so a PARTY needs its EQUIPMENT. without it how to function? correct or not? stupid lah this one... know only to throw problems at other people only. maybe that's why Chief Clerk doesn't like him. don know how to solve the problems himself, too dependant on other people...

tak suka tau oran orang macam gini...

Death of OCT Clifton

although clifton is not a personal friend of mine, i actually can feel the pain of losing a fellow soldier in service. maybe its because of how close his and my age is, or just how frequent we send Cadets to Brunei for training and they always come back safe and sound. it has therefore been a really shocking revelation to me that such a fit and strong cadet can just leave us like that.

my friend, alan, was so distraught after hearing the news last wednesday, that he could not concentrate on his work the next day. it's difficult looking at him. alan used to be such a happy, jovial and a blast to be with. and suddenly he just drops all that and became a sullen guy....

We Salute Officer Cadet (OCT) Clifton Lam Jia Hao and may he rest in peace.

Imelda Marcos

i just love mrs marcos! i watched her documentary yesterday and it got me thinking; was she the dictator? or was she athe WIFE to a dictator? i loved her wardrobe, her stash of 3000 pairs of shoes and her immaculate make up... i just love some of her answers to the interviewer's questions...

on why is she always so beautiful and immaculately dressed..

"i have to always look beautiful. so that the people will have someone to look up to. to be their hero, their standard, their star. it is not expensive to be buautiful. it takes only a little effort to be beautiful.... unfortunately people think beauty as luxury, beauty as frivolity, beauty as extravagance....no. beauty is a discipline. beauty is harmony, an art, in the ideological sense.

on why she owns 3000 pairs of shoes...

this is just what most women want. i just like shoes and dresses. but shoes mostly. if i am not famous, will this be a big deal? no!

she is just so cool!!!

miss universe 2008

what the hell is this?

a national dress?

or a national SHAME?compare this dress to the last year's
i so think the red one is way better than the merlion inspired dress. come on Singapore, stop asking a 17 year old guy to continue designing the gowns... get Ashley Isham, Frederick Lee, Tan Yoong or Francis Cheong lah... even better, you can get Albar, my friend!

SAF day

ok... here's the scoop... the Guard of Honours contigent this year is... MP COMMAND!!! Woohoo! go Mps!!!

for the past two days, SAF day rehearsals have really been a bitch in my arse. i have to wake up by 4.30 am, fall in at the parade square by 5.30 am, collect breakfast and be at SAFTI Military Institute by 9 am in a 1.5 tonner. then its all that water and ration shit going on. we are like feeding near to 400 mouths on the rehearsals! ( bear in mind these numbers account to only the Colours Party, the Guard of Honours Contigent, the Corps of Drums, and the Casing Party )

Thank goodness we are not feeding the marching contigents as well! i mean that will add up to a gazillion more mouths lor!

on the actual day itself, my section will have to feed 154 more mouths. that's when the SAF Bands will come in full force... goodness me...

but all in all, it is a very rewarding and an extremely fruitful event for the Singapore Army. the parade, that is. not the sai kang! hehehe
